NBI 7 asked to look into murder of town councilor

THE family of a murdered councilor from San Fernando sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 to conduct a parallel investigation on his slay.

While they welcomed a separate probe, local police said they already turned over their investigation on the death of Councilor Alexander Alicaway to a special task force organized by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.

Maria Victoria, the councilor’s widow, felt the police failed to solve her husband’s murder. She also believes that they’ve stopped looking for his killer. She alleged that the local police did not provide them with any assistance when her husband was buried.

It has almost been a month since the 49-year-old Alexander was shot dead by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle outside the San Fernando municipal hall.

In a separate interview, Senior Insp. Adrian Nalua, San Fernando police chief, admitted that he didn’t deploy any personnel to assist the Alicaway family during the burial but only because the victim’s widow didn’t ask for their assistance.

Nalua also said they stopped their investigation when they turned the case over to the Special Investigation Task Group of the PRO 7 to remove doubts that the local police would whitewash the case.

Meanwhile, Nalua said he welcomes a parallel investigation by the NBI.

“We are both from government offices. It’s better we work together to solve the case,” Nalua added.
