Seda: Hotel industry in Davao, thriving

EASE of doing business in Davao City is one of the highlights of Seda Abreeza Hotel’s 5th anniversary celebration.

Seda Abreeza’s general manager Ken Kapulong, in an interview with SunStar Davao said with the city’s robust tourism industry and ease of doing business, it is one of the country’s best areas for hotel operations.

"Five years gave a progressive trend for us. Davao has always been a city capable of development and innovation that’s why Ayala Hotels and Resorts Corp. chose to build its third Seda Hotel here in 2013," he said.

He also shared that in recent years, its hotel occupancy rate will never go down 70 percent all-year round as Davao is also known as a strong Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions’ (Mice) destination.

"The attention and exposure Davao gained through its tourism efforts definitely contributed to the hotel industry. Conventions and big events as the Asean Summit put us on the limelight and gives opportunities for other potential markets to see Davao and what it can offer to its tourists," he added.

In a speech last April 10, Kapulong expressed his gratitude for its partners support for the success of Seda Abreeza for the past five years.

“What we achieved was product of hard work and teamwork, but above all, it is an outcome of putting into heart that genuine Filipino hospitality is what makes any hotel experience complete,” he said.

He also mentioned that the hotel’s success in Tatler is because of the Misto diners’ patronage. Misto is the hotel’s all-day a la carte dining restaurant which offers an assortment of international classics and regional favorites. It was recognized as one of Tatler's Best Restaurant Guide for two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018.

“The certifications from and awards from websites and award-giving bodies were a result of good experiences and reviews shared online. All trainings conducted with international standards are inspired by our sincere motivation to give the best feelings in the world,” he added.

Last year, the hotel was awarded a four-star rating by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Davao Region, which means it passed the quality of service standards which is assessed after a thorough inspection of the hotel from the cutleries used, the treatment of the staff to the clients, the food, and even the temperature of the rooms, among others.

“We are looking forward to share more years of memorable stays, exquisite food and stronger partnerships,” Kapulong said.

The 11-storey hotel, which features a comfort urban hotel living, has 186 guest rooms and 10 fully-equipped function rooms for corporate or social events that can house 10 to 330 persons.

Seda Abreeza was launched in Davao City in April 2, 2013.
