Make-up your way to perfection

Make-up your way to perfection

IN THIS generation of “kilay is life” and finding the perfect lip wear, indeed a whole gamut of cosmetic line up made up of different shades of lip wear and eye make-up is indeed some women's paradise.

Doing your make-up is no longer just about looking good and presentable to other people but as well as feeling confident and good about yourself. Wearing make-up is no longer just about women's vanity, it's actually about self-expression and the art of it.

As part of the women's month celebration, SM Lanang Premier brought Loreal chief make-up artist Verna Marin during their “Mad for Make-Up” event which was attended by Dabawenya women of different backgrounds. Before she gave out expert tips on properly applying make-up, fun games were played by very participative audience.

The first game involved a special someone. As women are mostly known to be into make-up, the challenge was to have their boyfriends do it for them. There were two couples who took up the challenge and the boyfriends obviously were having fun while making sure that their girlfriends would still look good afterwards. It was a very interesting sight to see girlfriends carefully instructing their guys how to use this specific make-up and only just how much is going to be used. At the end of the challenge, writers and inspirational speakers Karla Singson and boyfriend Mitch Miller won the challenge.

Other make-up challenges were the 3-minute make-up challenge and the no-mirror make-up challenge, which unsurprisingly, the participating aced.

When Verna Marin stepped in front, he taught the women basic tips on contouring and highlighting. As these two are very much a trend in today's make-up application, Marin said women should be cautious first of trends before going into them.

"Just because it is a trend and it looks good on other women, it will look good on you. Before going after a trend, you must make sure it will suit you," Marin said.

She, having a face with distinct features, said she discovered that contour she wouldn't need contouring anymore. However, highlighting would suit her best. Doing your make-up she said, is mostly about discovering yourself and emphasizing your good points in the process.

But on top of choosing the right make-up and the right trend for yourself, Marin said the best thing to do is still skincare. With the best skin, less make-up is needed.

Talking about perfect skin care, Marin said as a woman grows older, more skin care regimen steps are needed. When a woman is on her 20s, basic requirement for her is a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Additional medication is necessary only if there are acne or blemish problems. However, when she reaches her 30s, serums, clay masks, creams with higher SPFs, and anti-wrinkle creams will become a necessity as well.

"The power of a blush, of a liner gives a woman confidence. The skills of putting on a make-up makes a woman proud, it is actually an edge," said Marin.

Marin was also known for being the Make Up Consultant for Season 3 of both Mega Fashion Crew and Project Runway Philippines. She is also the High Definition Make-up Consultant for ABS-CBN and ANC News.

She received Certifications in Asian Bridal Course, Mastery in Eye Make-Up, and Black Make-Up Course from the London Make-up School.
