TWO men were arrested at 10:40 p.m. Monday, April 16, for allegedly violating the election gun ban on the national highway in Barangay Nangka, Balamban, Cebu.
Senior Inspector Deni Mari Pedrozo, the town police chief, identified the suspects as Melvin Baliguat, 43, and Joel Torreon Aliviado, 45.
The two persons were on board their respective motorcycles when they were caught during a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint.
Each suspect yielded an unlicensed .45 pistol. Pedrozo's team also seized the motorcycles.
Pedrozo said they are investigating if the suspects are members of a gun-for-hire group or hitmen of a drug group.
Baliguat and Aliviado will be charged for violating the gun ban and Republic Act (RA) 10591 in relation Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by RA 8294 (illegal possession of firearms laws). (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
