Radaza meets stakeholders for 51st IEC

THE Lapu-Lapu City Government is deep into preparations for the arrival of delegates to the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) later this month.

Mayor Paz Radaza has met with all stakeholders involved in the preparation.

“I keep on reminding them that this is just like the APEC,” she said in an interview with reporters recently.

But Radaza said the City will have to secure more people during the IEC compared to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) events a few months ago.

She said about 5,000 delegates from 71 countries will stay in the city with foster families for the IEC.

The city will host IEC activities on Jan. 27 and 28, including the Jericho Walk from Hoops Dome to the Mandaue Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Radaza said barangays have a big role to play during the events as they will have to put up decorations and provide transportation services, among others.

“There is Sinulog before the IEC, so barangays will have that festive atmosphere for the delegates,” she said.

Booths

Barangays will also put up booths showcasing local products and activities.

“There’ll be a touch of tourism,” Radaza said, adding that activities and decors will promote the city’s tourism brand, “Lapu-Lapu City: The Historic Resort City.”

She also said she is confident that the city residents will be courteous and welcoming with the delegates.

“We’ll showcase our usual treatment of visitors so they will come back,” she said.
