MSME for sustainable furniture now thriving

WITH the influx of real estate property developments in the region come huge interior spaces that are needed to be filled with either home or office furnishings.

Home and property owners need not to spend much to own quality and sustainable furniture as this Mindanao-based woodwork enterprise offers one.

Among of sound choices for real estate developers who are eyeing affordable yet quality products would be the Woodworks Kiln Dried Products.

A thriving micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME), Woodworks takes pride in offering top quality products ranging from modular kitchen furnishings, doors to tables and chairs. After getting ample assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Woodworks has procured top-of-the-line wood-working equipment to meet the demands of the booming real estate market. The company started small in 1992 but now it has grown as a flourishing business that supplies furnishings to different Citi Hardware branches nationwide.

Hand-made or computer-carved Woodwork products come at an affordable price ranging between P3,000 to P6,000.

But more than the affordability of products, Woodworks offers a chance for real estate developers to take part in a more sustainable approach in construction. Being hailed as one of the most productive companies by the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in the Productivity Olympics last year, Woodworks owner Ricardo Talaboc has continued to pursue a sustainable approach in their production to ensure that the demands of the real estate market would be met while also becoming stewards of the environment.

“Our company has made use of planted species of wood particularly the Philippine Mahogany and this has been our continued effort in promoting a sustainable approach in our production. We also make use of excess wood pieces known as miscuts and this has been our contribution to the environment as we lessen the wastage. We then piece them together to form dining tables and other products,” Talaboc told Sun.Star Davao in an interview.

He also said their company is now going into the agricultural aspect in their production as they are inviting farmers to plant more mahogany trees which could help farmers earn more income and also aiding their production.

Talaboc added that they are into the research and development as well so as to keep their company in the loop in terms of the latest trends in the wood production and furniture industry.
