Dabawenyo hoop fans torn on who'll win the NBA finals

WITH the much-awaited clash of the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dabawenyo hoop fans are torn on who will emerge champion in Monday's Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) president Seth delos Reyes thinks that the defending champion Golden State Warriors still has a lot of tricks in its bag as they haven't showed much of their defense yet in the series.

"Tanaw nako close game na ugma ug naa ra siguro sa mga 10 points pababa ang labaw ana galing man og mudaog ang Warriors, (I think the game will be close and Warriors may win by around 10 points or less)," delos Reyes added.

Charles Maxey of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO), on the other hand, couldn't give a prediction yet he sees a very tightly-contested match today saying: "For the cavs to have a good chance, they have to make the game close. The warriors will be coming out very strong at the starting gates. They will be playing on their home floor."

For Pocholo Elegino also of the SDD-CMO, it would be a Warriors win should they continue to move without the ball and avert any second chance points for the Cavaliers.

"The Warriors should have a better rotation on defense, they should dictate the tempo of the game and they should cut LeBron's driving lane and force him to shoot jumpers," Elegino said.

But he was quick to add that it would also be a great feat for the Cavaliers should they win since they could become the first team in the league to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals.

Former Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) basketball team varsity player Jeff Von Catre, meanwhile, said it would be a Cavaliers win if they utilize Channing Frye.

"I think if Frye hits 3's all night long, it will be easy for Lebron and Kyrie to drive the basket and do their thing since the Warriors big men may be forced to go out to defend Frye," Catre said.

Dabawenyo hoop fans, Sychar Impig and Julo Santamarina, for their part, shared the same prediction as they both see a Cavaliers win in Game 7.

"The Cavaliers should continue to move without the ball and they should attack the rim," Impig said adding that the Warriors will lose the services of big man Andrew Bogut.

When asked about how much he thinks would the Cavaliers win over the Warriors, Santamarina said: "I would want to say blow out but I think Warriors would put up a good fight. The Cavaliers will win by maybe 10 points more or less."

The Warriors already had a comfortable 3-1 lead early in the series but they fell short in closing out the series in Game 5 after losing All-Star Draymond Green due to a suspension.

A monster performance from Lebron James and Kyrie Irving compounded the woes for the Warriors in Game 5 while another stellar showing from James was enough to put out Golden State in Game 6.
