THE Cebu-based Coalition for Better Education (CBE) will mark its 15th founding anniversary on Aug. 6, with a general membership meeting and fellowship at the Sky Hall B of SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties, Cebu City. The event is dubbed as “Celebrate CBE.”
The organization is composed of teachers and school administrators, students, parents, government and non-governmental and development groups and the business sector. Facilitating the formation of the coalition in August 2001 were three pillar-organizations, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the Philippine Business for Social Progress with the vision of creating empowered learning communities.
Professional and civic groups, business, parents, government, students, out-of-school youth, non-governmental organizations, the academe and media are represented in the CBE board of trustees.
CBE celebrates a rich history of pursuing its advocacy towards palpable improvements in the country’s education system, among them, the K-to-12 System, Education for All and the 10-Point Philippine Education Agenda.
CBE sustains the center for teacher excellence based at the Cebu Normal University as part of its research, training and development agenda. Over 1,000 in-service teachers and 900 plus principals throughout the country benefited from training programs.
The organization is actively linked to similar organizations. It is involved in the National Teachers Month celebration with the National Coordinating Council, the Mega Cebu Academic Competition and National Mental Health Awareness Month, disaster and risk reduction management. It is also represented in the Regional Tesda Education and Skills Development Council and Bayanihan Pampaaralan.
