THE Baguio City Council remains puzzled on the results of meeting between Uniwide Sales and Realty Corporation and the Technical Working Group while vendors expressed their willingness to develop the Baguio City Market.
During a public hearing on September 7, Uniwide representatives snubbed anew the invitation of the council to shed light on the situation of their company and capability to continue the market development.
"As of now, we are facing a blank wall kasi wala pang sinsabi sa atin.
As far as the council is concerned wala pang sinasabi bagama’t we authorized the mayor to create a committee for that purpose. Ang problema wala pang report na naibibigay sa council para maging basis natin sa capability ng Uniwide," committee on laws chairman Faustino Olowan told Sun.Star Baguio.
Olowan added the TWG has 60 days to wrap up their reports regarding the issue of Uniwide.
“Sa amin naman kung mayroon silang [Uniwide] rason they have to communicate with us para naman hindi kami naghihintay sa wala,” Olowan said.
“We respect the decision of the court, the problem is there are other reasons to be resolved. May decision din ang court na magkakaroon din ng rehabilitation ang Uniwide dahil may problema sa pera. Iyon ang titingnan natin. Are they really capable to develop the city market?” Olowan stressed.
Olowan added market vendors supports the development and expressed their willingness take over the development.
“Narinig po natin sinabi ng mga stakeholders natin sa market that they are capable also of doing it but of course the decision of committee on laws is to observe the due process,” Olowan stated.
Although market vendors are willing, Olowan stressed they will deal with the Uniwide contract first.
“We do not have vendors to develop market in mind yet. What we will do first is to deal with the contract then let us see sino ba ang may kakayanan na magdevelop. We can also avail of the PPP program of the government,” Olowan said.
Olowan disclosed the council will continue to invite Uniwide for them to air their side and possibly invite the Securities and Exchange Commission to update the city on the situation of Uniwide.
