Fongwan: Shun dirty politics
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Governor Nestor Fongwan reminded councilmen here of the lessons learned during the recent elections.
Fongwan said dirty politics has no place in the province, but added “it turns out that we have been infected by dirty tactics here.”
PNP dubs CAR polls 'peaceful'
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Regional cops have certified elections to be peaceful here.
Cordillera chief Benjamin Magalong said, "The success of the elections can be attributed to the peacekeeping strategy of PRO COR that started since last year."
Cosalan, Fongwan, Dangwa proclaimed
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Wednesday Ronald Cosalan, Nestor Fongwan, and Nelson Dangwa as provincial winners for political positions here.
Incumbent representative Ronald Cosalan retained his seat in the second district of Benguet. Nestor Fongwan was proclaimed provincial governor, while Nelson Dangwa retained his seat as provincial vice governor.
Tourism task force top priority
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez is giving a year for a tourism master plan in Baguio City and its neighboring towns to happen.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Purificacion Molintas said Task Force BLISST will now be in full swing after a meeting with Secretary Jimenez and line agencies last week.
Fongwan, Dangwa lead in Benguet
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Partial unofficial results for the province showed a deafening lead by incumbent governor Nestor Fongwan who garnered 69,488 electoral votes against contender Jerome Selmo who so far has mustered 22,836 votes.
Four municipalities in the province had fully submitted the election returns.
New labor case hurled vs firm
TEXAS Instruments Philippines Inc. (Tipi) will face the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) anew this week for another labor case.
Tipi, a producer of semiconductors and maker of chips for consumer electronics, is faced with charges hurled by Modesta Calado over illegal dismissal and illegal suspension.
NPA tagged in Kalinga ambush
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police are pointing to the New People’s Army (NPA) as prime suspects in the Kalinga ambush Thursday morning.
Cordillera Police Information chief Davy Limmong said there are no other groups capable of the crime, although he admitted there are no witnesses willing to testify as of press time.
2 soldiers killed in Kalinga ambush
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Two soldiers escorting the delivery of Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines to Kalinga towns were killed in an ambush staged by suspected communist rebels in Tabuk City, police said.
Cordillera Police Information chief Davy Limmong confirmed the incident, which also left six other soldiers injured, was considered an election-related violence. It happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday at sitio Patiking, Barangay Bagumbayan, Tabuk City.
Comelec briefs La Trinidad police for polls
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here conducted a final briefing with Valley cops Tuesday, a Comelec official said.
Comelec election officer Eugene Ramos said three points were emphasized during the brief: the liquor ban, the Comelec checkpoints, and the gun ban.
Drive vs illegal gambling still on
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Valley top cop Byron Allatog said the drive to eliminate illegal gambling activities is still in full force here.
Allatog said after the successful operation in a Balili jueteng den last week arresting 26 persons, operatives are still on the prowl.
