Katribu slams lifting of mining moratorium
THE Katribu Party-list criticized the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) for lifting the moratorium on the applications of new mining permits nationwide, saying the decision is politically-driven.
MGB-Central Office chief Leo Jasareno announced the lifting of the moratorium last Friday, April 5.
School proposes new policy on grants
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Officers of the Benguet State University–Student Scholarships and Grants Unit (BSU-SSGU) pushed their proposed new policy allowing grantees to avail of other scholarship programs outside the school.
SSGU head Maricris Lad–ey said at first, they proposed for amendments under Article II and III, Sections 2, 3, 5, and 10 of the 2008 BSU Policies on Scholarships and Grants–in–Aid.
BSU student body asks for share in fair revenue
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Benguet State University’s (BSU) Supreme Student Government (SSG) recently asked the administration to release the P90,000 profit from the 2012 Christmas trade fair supposedly for the students’ organization.
SSG president Daryll Baucas said the fund has not yet been released because of inconsistencies with several documents, citing there were three memoranda of agreement (MOA) signed that they have to modify into one.
ATI takes steps towards rice sufficiency
DEPARTMENT of Agriculture (DA)-Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) encouraged rice producers to practice adoption of efficient production technologies.
ATI Superintendent Dr. Arlene Flores said trainings to boost the farmers’ morale will be held at the institute inside the Benguet State University (BSU) campus.
BSU boasts of 4 magna, 56 cum laude grads
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Four magna cum laude and 56 cum laude students of Benguet State University (BSU) will soon shine during the school graduation rites Saturday, April 6.
The four magna cum laude students are: Irene Ata of the Bachelor of Library and Information Science, with a general weighted average of 1.4424; Clarence Maquio from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (1.4756); BSE student Ranec Azarias (1.4784); and Malyn Dionesio of the Bachelor of Elementary Education (1.4891).
RDC searching for private sector reps
THE Regional Development Council (RDC) of Cordillera is inviting the public to submit their nominees for private sector representative (PSR).
Among the qualifications set by the RDC officers for PSR nominees are: must be Filipino citizens; of legal age; no criminal records; with proven track of records for at least three years involvement in socio–economic development programs; and must be willing to participate in the RDC activities.
Dulnuan complies with Mine bureau order
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The family of Jack Dulnuan is almost done backfilling the alleged treasure hunting tunnel inside their building in Km. 6, Betag.
A visit at the site inside an abandoned three–storey building under the management of Dulnuan’s daughter, Rose, showed workers busy filling the tunnel with cement.
Benguet State University recognizes achievers
THE Benguet State University (BSU) will soon fete its 275 academically excellent students with general weighted average (GWA) ranging from 1.75 up to 1.342 on April 5 during the achievers recognition day.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Percyveranda Lubrica said the GWA topnotcher among the first to fourth years is a student under the College of Agriculture. She is Jessica Rivera a freshman Bachelor of Science in Agriculture student with a GWA of 1.342.
Irrigation authority opens on–the–spot painting contest
THE National Irrigation Authority (NIA) in Cordillera invites college artists to show off their talents on its on–the–spot painting contest on April 5.
The painting contest is in line with NIA’s 50th year of irrigation service in the region on June 22, with the theme: “NIA at 50: Serving the farmers with excellence and commitment to continue its legacy in the years to come.”
Pocket miners to face court
ITOGON, Benguet - Thirteen pocket miners here will face the Municipal Trial Court (MTC) on April 5 for violations of three mining laws.
The miners were identified as Fernando Falaw–ed, 26, resident of Baguio City; Ronald Imperial, 30, resident of Baguio City; Herman Magsay, 37, native of Sagada, Mt. Province; Reynaldo Amoyen, 45, native of Rizal, Kalinga; James Calpi, 22, native of Sagada, Mt. Province; Rudy Magsay, 22, native of Sagada, Mt. Province; Jeric Pisipis, 19, native of Sagada, Mt. Province; Moises Bagay, 19, native of Sagada, Mt. Province; Crisanto Oli, 40, native of Kibungan, Benguet; Anthony Digmo, 29, resident of Baguio City; Jodel Sabado, 37, native of Caloocan City; Jessie Watawat, 18, native of Tadian, Mt. Province; and John Watawat, 44, native of Tadian, Mt. Province.
