Guv denies claims she won in 2 towns

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Cotabato Governor-elect Lala Talino-Mendoza denied claims by her rival gubernatorial candidate Manny Piño, that she only won in two towns in the province last May 2013 elections.

Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Mendoza garnered 254,121 votes over Piñol's 203,657 or a difference of 50,464 votes.

Blast rocks North Cotabato town

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A loud blast rocked Poblacion in Kabacan, North Cotabato Sunday evening.

Superintendent Leo Ajero, chief of Kabacan police, said the explosion came from a projectile of a 40mm mortar fired from an M203 grenade launcher.

13-hour brownout hits North Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- At least 75 percent of the whole service areas of the Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) in North Cotabato province experienced brownouts that lasted for 13 hours on Thursday, starting 11 p.m.

Officials said it was not yet part of the rotating load curtailment imposed by the National Power Corporation (Napocor).

2 hurt as MNLF, MILF clash anew

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Two members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were wounded after they engaged anew in a running gun battle with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in a remote village in Matalam, North Cotabato at around 6:20 a.m., Thursday, a military official said.

Captain Antonio Bulao, spokesman for the Army's 602nd Brigade based in Carmen, North Cotabato, said the wounded MILF rebels were immediately rushed for treatment at the Cotabato Provincial Hospital at Amas Complex, this city.

Rotating brownouts to resume in N. Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The rotating brownouts in North Cotabato province resumes today, Friday, four days after the May 13 elections, an official of the Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) said.

Cotelco general manager Godofredo Homez said their advisory on load curtailment for North Cotabato came from the National Power Corporation (Napocor).

Girl killed, mother hurt in blast

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A seven-month old girl died while his mother was wounded when a grenade exploded along Malvar Street in Poblacion, Kabacan in North Cotabato, around 2:45 a.m., Wednesday, police reports said.

Inspector Tirso Pascual, of the Kabacan PNP, identified the fatality as Chelzy Jane Buisan Eliarda, seven months old, and the wounded as Sohaina Buisan Eliarda, both residents of Malvar St., Poblacion.

Farmers urged to plant black rice

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The black rice, once considered "forbidden" and food served only for the emperors, now comes to ordinary homes in Central Mindanao.

In fact, at least 500 hectares of land in the region are planted to black rice, according to Romano Laurilla, general manager of the Don Bosco Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC).

DepEd official killed in Maguindanao

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The district supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Maguindanao province was shot dead by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle in Salipada K Pendatun (SKP) town at around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Dr. Meriam Kawit, Maguindanao schools division superintendent, identified the victim as Abas Menso, district supervisor in SKP town who was also appointed as member of the Municipal Board of Election Canvassers in the area.

Protesters demand power from geothermal plants

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Close to a thousand protesters, coming from 40 civil society groups in North Cotabato, barricaded Thursday the streets leading to the Mindanao sub-office of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in Barangay Ilomavis.

This is to demand from the geothermal power plants the 25 percent of their total dispatch to host the city and province.

Bomb explodes at NGCP tower

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) went off last Monday at a tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) at Sitio Liton, Barangay Kayaga in Kabacan town in North Cotabato.

None among the residents was hurt or injured during the blast as the NGCP tower is located away from the population, said Superintendent Leo Ajero, chief of Kabacan Police Station.
