Violence erupts at USM: 13 cops hurt
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Thirteen policemen, all assigned at the Cotabato Provincial Police Office (CPPO), were injured when they engaged in a scuffle with the rallyists outside the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kabacan town, around 3 a.m. Wednesday, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent Danny Peralta, CPPO director, said their men were sent to the university on USM Avenue in the Poblacion to open the main gate so that the 12,000 college students and teachers can enter the school premises.
3 soldiers wounded as Army, NPA clash
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Three soldiers were wounded when they encountered a group of communist guerillas in Barangay New Israel, Makilala, North Cotabato around 10:30 a.m. Monday, a military official said.
Lieutenant Nasrullah Sema, chief of the civil military operations of the 57th IB, identified the casualties as Corporal (Cpl.) Jonathan Santos, Cpl. Antonio Grafil Jr., and Cpl. Allan Laurea, all from the 62nd Division Reconnaissance Company of the 6th Infantry Division.

Lumads train on song writing, video prods
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Close to 30 lumads from south and central Mindanao joined a three-week training on song composition and video production that started in February 2 at the DXND mini-auditorium.
Father Ed Vasquez, OMI., executive director of I-Watch Productions, said the training is part two of three of a series of seminars, which aim to empower the lumad society in Southern Philippines through indigenous music, audio-visual productions, and social media formations.
Suspects in vice mayor's slay charged
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Police in North Cotabato province filed Thursday murder complaints against two of the alleged killers of Kabacan Vice Mayor Policronio Dulay.
Senior Inspector Rodel Calo, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT)-North Cotabato, identified the suspects as Jomar Pulindao Utala, 26, and Batong Magalib, both residents of Barangay Madidis in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.
Cops nab 3 ‘police agents’ in N. Cotabato checkpoint
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Three persons who claimed to be agents of a police unit operating in North Cotabato were arrested during a highway check in Pikit town, around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Jordine Maribojo, chief of the Pikit Police Station, identified the suspects as Cyril Fajardo Abapo, 26, of Sitio Bugoc, Barangay Ma-a, Davao City; Galileo Hinosa Jr., 35, of Barangay Lanao, Kidapawan City; and Danilo Jalwin Licatan, 59, of Poblacion, Kidapawan City.
Police arrest 3 motor thieves
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Authorities recovered in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat a stolen motorcycle around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Superintendent Junny Buenacosa, chief of the Tacurong City police, said the red XRM 125 motorcycle they recovered along the national highway, in front of the Notre Dame of Tacurong College, was registered under the name of Aban Beamars of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
FPA seizes unregistered agri supplies in N. Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Employees and staff of the Fertilizers and Pesticides Authority (FPA) confiscated 91 liters of un-registered agricultural products from seven supply stores in at least five towns in the province since they launched their cleanup drive in January.
Aletha Bornea, FPA Cotabato provincial coordinator, identified some of the brands they confiscated as Apex Crop Booster; Field Grow; Crop Booster; Inducer Miracle; Growth Hormone; and a pesticide with a brand name, "Insecticide."
Woman trader shot in Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A 53-year-old trader hospitalized after he was shot by riding-in-tandem armed men in Kabacan, North Cotabato around 8 a.m., Sunday.
Superintendent Leo Ajero, Kabacan police chief, identified the victim as Norma Pigcaulan, a dry goods store owner in Kabacan.
2 die, 5 hurt as jeep hits tree in Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Two passengers died while five others were hurt when the jeep they were riding veered off the road and smashed into a big tree in Barangay Noa, Magpet, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Inspector Basilio Parcon, deputy chief for operations of the Magpet police, identified the fatalities as Toto Canaan, 21, and Ronnie Abawan, both residents of Barangay Basak, Magpet.
