Woman trader shot in Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A 53-year-old trader hospitalized after he was shot by riding-in-tandem armed men in Kabacan, North Cotabato around 8 a.m., Sunday.
Superintendent Leo Ajero, Kabacan police chief, identified the victim as Norma Pigcaulan, a dry goods store owner in Kabacan.
2 die, 5 hurt as jeep hits tree in Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Two passengers died while five others were hurt when the jeep they were riding veered off the road and smashed into a big tree in Barangay Noa, Magpet, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Inspector Basilio Parcon, deputy chief for operations of the Magpet police, identified the fatalities as Toto Canaan, 21, and Ronnie Abawan, both residents of Barangay Basak, Magpet.
Kin of ex-rebel killed in Cotabato cry for justice
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Relatives of a former guerilla shot dead on Friday in M'lang, North Cotabato cried justice for his death.
They told authorities the killing of Herminio "Dodo" Autillo could be election-related as he was a staunch critic of some politicians running in different local positions in M'lang town.
Suspect in vice mayor's slay nabbed
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- One of the three suspected drug couriers arrested on Thursday in Kabacan town in North Cotabato turned out to be one of the alleged killers of the town's vice mayor, a police official said.
Superintendent Leo Ajero, chief of Kabacan police, said a witness had positively identified the suspect as among those that carried out the killing of Kabacan Vice Mayor Policronio Dulay on January 11.
Ma found dead inside house
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A 39-year-old mother was found dead inside her house in a remote village in Magpet town in North Cotabato around 12:30 p.m., Thursday, a police investigator said.
Police Officer 3 Redentor Siangco, Magpet police investigator, identified the victim as Vilma Oclao, 39, a mother of three and a resident of sitio Pandanon in Barangay Bongalanon, Magpet.
University in North Cotabato under siege
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Members of the Multi-Stakeholders Movement for Peace, Truth, and Reforms have continued to "control" the state-owned University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kabacan, North Cotabato since they launched the third wave of their protests on Monday, a school official said.
Floods destroy P5.2M rice fields in N. Cotabato town
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Some P5.2-million worth of agricultural products were destroyed when flashfloods hit at least 10 villages in Kabacan town in North Cotabato last week, reports from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) said.
Continued rains that started Friday damaged about 707 hectares of rice fields. At least 70 percent of which had no chance to recover, reports added.
NPA denies using landmine in attack
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The New People's Army (NPA) in Southern Mindanao denied Monday reports saying they used a landmine during an attack on government troops in Makilala, North Cotabato on Friday.
Rigoberto Sanchez, spokesperson for the Merardo Arce Command of the NPA, said they used a command-detonated explosive against a military vehicle where elements of the 57th Infantry Battalion were on board.
5 hurt in Makilala roadside explosion
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Five soldiers were wounded, two of them in critical condition, when a roadside bomb went off in a remote village in Makilala town in North Cotabato, at around 11:30 p.m. Friday, a military official said.
Lieutenant Nasrullah Sema, civil military operations chief of the 57th IB, identified the victims as Corporal Muhammad Nur Sali, Corporal Hassan Sarip, Private First Class Allan Urop, Private Michael Purol, and Private Vincent Sumug-oy, all members of the Charlie Company of the 57th IB.
Grenade explosion in Maguindanao hurts 2
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A school supervisor in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao escaped death when a fragmentation grenade exploded inside her residential compound around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a rescue volunteer said.
Toto Abu, volunteer for the 505 Disaster Rescue Emergencies Assistance and Management (Dream), identified the unscathed teacher as Delia Daniel, a district supervisor in Datu Montawal town.
