Mila C. Espina

Mila C. Espina is a woman who wears many hats: educator, writer, public speaker, and tourism advocate.

An alumna of Maryknoll College, University of Santo Tomas, University of San Carlos and East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mila took special studies on communication and teaching in the US as a scholar of the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVP). She has 48 years of teaching under her belt, and as former liberal arts dean of the University of San Jose-Recoletos from 1973 to 2000, she developed the school’s courses on Communication and Tourism.

In the field of journalism, she was an editor of the lifestyle section of Newstime Daily. She also writes for the lifestyle section of Manila Standard Today and documents people and events for Sun.Star Cebu through her column, “In My Diary.”

Mila is involved with education-oriented foundations, such as Punla, We Care, Philippines Foundation and the Amparito Lhuiller Foundation. Her tourism affiliations include the East Asian Tourism Forum, the Central Visayas Tourism Council, and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tourism Committee.

She shares with others her expertise in speaking thru Speechcom, a training center she founded that offers short-term courses and special programs on English proficiency. This is in line with her belief that “every word one utters is a prayer, because it comes from the heart and the soul, and communication is only a means to an end—that of building bridges of love and unity.”
