LGUs urged: Lure investors to manufacturing business
BOARD of Investments (BOI) Governor Oliver Butalid urged local government units (LGUs) on Thursday to entice investors to venture into manufacturing to achieve the country's goal of inclusive economic growth.
Butalid, head of the government's promotions investments agency, said the manufacturing sector is already left behind, with aged non-graduate and non-skilled individuals unemployed.
Coop summit to focus on entrepreneurship
ENTREPRENEURSHIP is the focus in this year's 11th National Cooperative Summit, Elsie Remonte, summit's national coordinator, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro on Friday.
Remonte said successful cooperatives are becoming wealthy because of the continuous growing number of its members yet most of the latter has yet to experience being at the top as entrepreneurs.
11th national coop summit set October 10
THE Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC) in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) will hold the 11th National Cooperative Summit on October 10 to 12, 2012 at the Atrium of LimKetKai Center in Cagayan de Oro City.
Edwin Pelosas, cooperative development specialist of the CDA in Northern Mindanao region, said around 4,000 to 5,000 cooperative leaders from all over the country are expected to attend the gathering. Cagayan de Oro’s top performing cooperatives are the hosts of this grand event, the second time to be held in the city back in 2002.
Oil review committee shocks transport group
THE local National Confederation of Transport Union (NCTU) in Northern Mindanao region was shocked of the recent decision of the Independent Oil Price Review Committee (IOPRC) absolving oil companies from overpricing accusations.
Joel Gabatan, NCTU’s regional coordinator, said the transport sector leaders are threatening another large street demonstration nationwide to express dismay over the “questionable decision of the review committee” and to pressure the independent body to do another investigation.

Chamber opposes P80 wage hike for NorMin
THE Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation (OroChamber) Inc. expressed opposition to the P80 daily wage increase petition for workers in Northern Mindanao filed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP).
The petition, accordingly, due to series of increases in the prices of fuel and basic commodities that affects the purchasing power of daily wage earners.
