Business group elects Sun.Star columnist
A SUN.STAR Cagayan de Oro business columnist was elected President of the Association of Marketing Educators (AME-Philippines), a Manila-based business group of marketing educators established by the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA).
As the new captain of the ship for Academic Year 2012-2013, Prof. Enrique M. Soriano III, as the 22nd elected AME National President (Ateneo Graduate School of Business), pledged that his term will move towards the chosen theme for this year: “Shaping the Future of Marketing Education Amidst the Challenges of Technology and Globalization”.
Drivers, operators oppose cut of flag down rate
TAXI drivers and operators in Cagayan de Oro opposed moves to reduce the flag down rate of taxi units to P30 from the current P40.
Allan Gamba, chairperson of the Cagayan de Oro Taxi Drivers Organization, said the P30 flag down rate is only possible should prices of gasoline go down to P35 and below per liter.

Parents hit school fees ‘discrepancy’
SOME parents of varsity students hit a private school in Cagayan de Oro for allegedly collecting tuition fees even if their children are entitled to a varsity scholarship.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School, the parents said, also allegedly won’t release the credentials of their children who wanted to transfer to another school.
Fuel prices roll back nine times
A GIANT oil company in Cagayan de Oro had its ninth-time rollback on prices of petroleum products since April, a gasoline station staff told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Monday.
The staff, who asked his identity and the name of his company be kept secret, revealed that they had implemented the series of price rollbacks totaling more than P5 for gasoline and close to P7 for diesel.
Misamis Oriental coop receives P300,000 cash aid
A MULTI-PURPOSE cooperative at a remote village in Misamis Oriental, received a total of P300,000 cash as livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Northern Mindanao, a radio report said Thursday.
The Nagkahiusang Kahugpungan sa Mag-uuma-Multi Purpose Cooperative (Namukaw-MPC) in Barangay Umagos in Lagonglong town is now equipped to produce quality bananas for export and help more than 150 members in producing other products with the Dole’s livelihood program.
Vendors at school warned
THE Cagayan de Oro City health department has warned vendors at school of displaying undesirable kinds of foodstuffs for the buying schoolchildren in the city.
City Health Officer Dr. Jerie Calingasan said vendors found selling unfit food for snacks and meals to children are subject to permanent closure by the city mayor.
Lawmaker hails media award-giving body
ABANTE Mindanao party-list Representative Maximo Rodriguez hailed a newspaper company in Cagayan de Oro for “taking the cudgels” in giving recognition to the business sector.
“It should be the government who should be giving awards and incentives. (Yet, it is) the media who have taken the cudgels of giving honor to our people,” Rodriguez said, as he addressed the crowd of the 2012 Mindanao Business Leader and Entrepreneurs Awards at Pryce Plaza Hotel and Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro Saturday.
Samsung’s Smart TV hits 58% market share in Oro
SAMSUNG’S Smart TV has hit 58 percent of the market share in Cagayan de Oro alone.
“That’s why we selected Cagayan de Oro as the first venue (in the Philippines) to launch Samsung’s Smart TV outside Metro Manila,” said Jan Roman, Samsung’s product manager for Future Produce Television (FPTV), during the launching of the television brand’s newest and latest model in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday.
