Ordinance is not a proof of land ownership: Mayor
DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio yesterday said a mere ordinance issued by the City Council granting parcels of land to specific communities without a valid Deed of Sale or title is not enough proof of ownership.
Duterte-Carpio issued the statement after some residents, whose houses were demolished by virtue of a court order covering a highly-contested parcel of land in Block 1 and 2 in Purok Soliman, Barangay Monteverde, Agdao, Davao City.
Agri-Trade Fair opens tomorrow
THE organizers of the Agri-Trade Fair at the SM City Davao grounds, which was supposed to open Wednesday, moved the fair's grand opening to August 3, to coincide with the official opening of this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw celebration.
Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2012 spokesperson Orly Escarilla said exhibitors are not yet done installing their displays thus, the postponement.
August declared 'Buwan ng Wika'
DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has issued a proclamation declaring the month of August as "Buwan ng Wika" in Davao City.
In her newly issued Proclamation 07 dated July 11, Duterte-Carpio emphasized the importance of mother language to the development and success of a country and a city, in particular.
No result yet of EV-71 confirmatory test
THE Davao City Health Office (CHO) is yet to receive the findings of the confirmatory tests on 17 samples taken from children suspected to have been infected with Enterovirus 71 (EV-71) infection.
Dr. Eduard Ladrido, chief of the Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the CHO, told Sun.Star Davao on Monday that there has been no response yet from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) based in Alabang in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, regarding the tissue samples taken from 17 kids believed to be infected with EV-71 that causes Foot, Hand, and Mouth Disease (FHMD) among humans.
Health office monitors 22 EV71 cases
THE Davao City Health Office (CHO) said Friday they are closely monitoring 22 suspected cases of Enterovirus 71, commonly called as EV71, said to be a fatal strain of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).
Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, CHO chief, told Sun.Star Davao that of the 22 suspected cases of EV71 infections, only tissue samples from 17 children have been taken and were sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Alabang, in Metro Manila, for confirmatory test.
City’s dengue cases up by more than 700%
DAVAO City recorded an increase of more than 700 percent in dengue cases during the first seven months of this year as compared to the same period in 2011, the City Health Office reported Friday.
This is contrary to President Benigno Aquino III's claim in his third State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 23, that dengue cases nationwide have significantly decreased.
Demolition in Soliman finally pushed through
CONTROVERSY over a highly-contested property in Soliman village in Agdao, Davao City is over as demolition of houses that were illegally constructed in the area were finally demolished Thursday.
"Nahimong peaceful and orderly ang demolition karon kompara atong niaging tuig tungod sa pre-demolition conference nga gipahigayon namo (Yesterday's demolition was peaceful and orderly compared to last year due to the pre-demolition conference we conducted)," village chief Fulgencio Pavo said in an interview.
Still no mining application in city
THE Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR) in Davao Region said Thursday there are have been no applications for mining explorations received by the office for mining projects in the entire city after the issuance of the controversial Executive Order (EO) No. 79 that lay down new mining policies.
Lawyer Wilfredo Moncano, chief of the Mine Management Division of the DENR-MGB, in Thursday's I-Speak forum held at the City Hall, told reporters that the moratorium on acceptance of mines exploration application is still in effect.
2nd reading of Traffic Code amendment approved
AFTER nearly seven months of deliberation, the Davao City Council has approved, on second reading, the amended version of the city's comprehensive Traffic Code.
In Tuesday's regular session, all councilors unanimously voted for the adoption of the amended version of the Traffic Code that was first crafted in 1957.
City ready for Kadayawan
IT'S all systems go for this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw.
According to Museo Dabawenyo director Orly Escarilla, who is also the spokesperson of Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2012, all the necessary preparations for the Kadayawan sa Dabaw are in place.
