TWO provincial Capitol executives who are both alumni of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños were awarded by the UPLB Alumni Association-Negros Occidental.
Chapter for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields during the UPLB Centennial and 53rd alumni homecoming and loyalty day celebration themed “Mga Iskolar para sa Bayan: One Hundred Years of Distinctive Excellence in the Service of the People”, at the Town and Country Clubhouse in Talisay City last Sunday.

Assistant Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator and former Provincial Information Officer Marlin Pellejo-Sanogal was awarded for her outstanding contribution in the field of development communication and government service while fifth district Board Member Enrique Miguel L. Lacson was recognized for his outstanding achievement in agri-business and community service.
Sanogal, who was a government scholar, graduated from UPLB in 1983 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Development Communication. She finished her master’s degree in management, major in public management at UP-Diliman and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in public management at West Negros University as a provincial government scholar.
She was given the distinction as an outstanding employee of the provincial government in 2007 during the Provincial Awards for Service Excellence and was adjudged finalist of Lingkod Bayan Award in the same year. She was conferred by the Civil Service Commission with a Career Executive Service (CES) eligibility on June 9, 2009.
Sanogal has served the provincial government for 17 years. She was elected as president of the Negros Association of Government Information Officers and Liaisons (NAGIOL) in 2008 and heads the Ombudsman Corruption Prevention Unit that is equivalent to a resident ombudsman in the province.
Meanwhile, Lacson is a Batch ’86 Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness graduate of UPLB. He was appointed as board member of the 5th District of Negros Occ. in 2008, replacing former Board Member Emilio Yulo, III who succeeded then Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco when the latter became the governor. He is the chairman of the committees on food security and natural disasters and calamities.
UPLB alumni association president Charles G. Jison gave the plaque of recognition to the awardees while Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr. was the guest speaker during the celebration.
Sanogal and Lacson were also elected as PIO and member of the board of directors of the association, respectively, in an election held as part of the activity.
Other elected officers were Abner Jardinico, president; Rustico Morales, vice president; Emmanuel Samson, secretary; Lawrence Ledesma, treasurer; Ogie Sunio, asst. treasurer; Romy Lopez, auditor; and Hector Las Pinas, Teodoro Quisumbing, Rodrigo Tapay, and ex-officio and immediate past president Charles Jison as board of directors.
