204 youths, adults start free computer lesson

ALFREDO “Albee” Benitez, president of the Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, announced that 204 more youths and adults in the province’s 3rd district started free lessons on how to use the computer under the Foundation’s Cyber Library computer literacy program.

Benitez said for three hours each week in the next three months, these trainees have been scheduled to undergo training modules on basic computer operation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet.

The free computer training continues at the Cyber Library in Victorias City where 154 of the 204 beneficiaries alternately come for lessons every day each week starting at 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The rest of the 50 trainees reports to the Silay City Cyber Library for their scheduled lesson from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

The group at the Victorias Cyber Library belongs to the third batch of scholars of the computer literacy program that was started by the Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation last year while the Silay scholars are its first batch of trainees.

Benitez added that last May, close to 200 students, out-of-school youths, adults and even several grade school pupils successfully completed a three-month training and also a two-week seminar-workshop, bringing to more than 400 the total number of graduates of the program.

Benitez stressed that the continuing training is among their priority thrusts this year, providing opportunities for all to enhance their skills and be self-sufficient.

The Foundation’s computer literacy program is recognized and assisted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
