3 die; dengue cases up by 416%

THREE more Negrenses died of dengue, bringing the total death toll to 23, as Negros Occidental registered a 416 percent increase as of August 21, records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
PHO officer-in-charge Dr. Ernell Tumimbang said this year's dengue cases numbered 4,087 from January 1 to August 21 compared to the 792 cases last year.

But based on the morbidity weekly report, dengue cases this week dropped to 509, compared to 600 cases in the last morbidity weekly report.
The latest dengue victims were from Barangay Fabrica, Sagay City, Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, and from a yet to be identified barangay in San Enrique.
Local government units in the province, which posted high dengue cases are: Silay City (516); Talisay City (417); Himamaylan City (328); Cadiz City (319); Kabankalan City (290); La Carlota City (256) and Bago City (177).
Tumimbang added the PHO had noticed an increase in the number of barangays in province which posted an increase in the number of dengue cases.
Twenty-one more barangays in the province were declared as "dengue hotspots" by the PHO, said Tumimbang. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
