5 Negros electric coops formed aggregate group

FIVE electric cooperatives in the Negros Island have formed the Negros-Power Supply Aggregation Group (N-PSAG) to jointly undertake the planning, development, contracting and operations for power supply of the group.

The forming of the aggregate group aims to solve the power problem that is happening not only in Negros but also in other parts of the country.

These electric cooperatives are the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco), the V-M-C Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc. (VRESCO), the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Noceco), the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative, Inc.-I (Noreco I) and the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative, Inc. -II (Noreco II).

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by Ceneco President Edward Gasambelo, VRESCO President Armando Valmayor, Noceco President John Peter Milan, Noreco-I President Anito Mercado, and Noreco-II President Lennie Joy Alviola on May 18 in Kabankalan City.

The N-PSAG was formed to urgently address the power crisis in the Negros Island by developing the power supply and to jointly enter into contract with Generating Companies (GENCOs) and Wholesalers to fulfill the least-cost power supply obligation to their consumers.

As a legal entity representing the five participating electric cooperatives, N-PSAG is mandated to transact in behalf of the mutual needs of the individual cooperatives. This venture is expected to foster a stronger negotiating power for the group.

Moreover, N-PSAG is expected to promote vibrant economic activities in its coverage areas by encouraging and assisting its member-electric cooperatives to implement projects, policies, and services that will complement each other.

N-PSAG will be launched, along with the oath taking of officers, on July 2 at 8:30 a.m. at L'Fisher Hotel.
