SEVERAL Bacoleños jampacked the 11 venues in the City of Bacolod to watch the free telecast of pound-for-pound boxing king Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey for the WBO welterweight championship.

The City Government provided free telecast at the Bays Center, Barangays Sum-ag, Tangub, Bata, Granada, Mansilingan, Banago, Mandalagan, Handumanan, Estefania, and Singcang, as it has been a tradition of the city to sponsor live telecasts of Pacquiao’s fights since he was declared an adopted son of Bacolod.

Pacquiao fought Clottey with combinations to the body throughout in retaining his World Boxing Organization (WBO).

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said it is the pride and honor of our country that Pacquiao retained the welterweight title as the world’s best pound for pound boxer.

He said Pacquiao has shown his best to beat his opponent and to gain the honor for the country and for the Filipino people,” it shows that the Filipino has the ability to be known worldwide in boxing history.”

He added that Pacquiao took advantage by using his blazing hand speed and capabilities to rip through Clottey’s gloves and defend his title.

Sayson said it’s also the pride of Bacoleños since Pacqiuao is an adopted son of Bacolod.

Jeannylin Heradura, a private employee, said Pacqiuao has once again proven he’s the best as boxing king and that “we must be proud of him for giving another honor to our country.”

She said Pacquiao is a paragon of heroism for the Filipino people, as he shows confidence, hard work, and perseverance in attaining his goals.
