The City Council of Bacolod has approved the resolution penned by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, "supporting and marking in solidarity with the whole world the 24th day of October 2009 as International Day of Climate Action".
Batapa-Sigue said in the resolution that "supporting the said activity will help in the international arena to be informed and accountable for crafting and implementing policies that will save humankind from further destruction brought about by climate change".
Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather over periods of time that range from decades to millions of years.
It can be a change in the average weather or a change in the distribution of weather events around an average (for example, greater or fewer extreme weather events).
Climate change may be limited to a specific region, or may occur across the Earth.
The city passed City Ordinance 504, creating the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Programs that officially declares its policy "to initiate, support, undertake or encourage, whatever is applicable, any and all of these initiatives at the city level" that supports the advocacies towards saving the planet from possible calamities that climate change would bring.
