Bizman sees expansion of parking bays at South terminal

BUSINESSMAN Leo Rey Yanson Tuesday said his transport companies would utilize the four parking bays on the north wing of the Bacolod City South Terminal as the volume of passenger increases.

Yanson, director of the Vallacar Transit Inc. which operates the Ceres Liner buses, wrote the Bacolod City Counil, stating its plan to utilize said parking bays that the company is presently using along Lopez Jaena Street.

The transport tycoon also said “the full utilization of the terminal will commence immediately after completion of needed improvements.”

Yanson said: “The passenger volume has constantly increased in recent years and that this has been amplified by the opening of more access roads in towns and barangays connecting to the national highway, thus, the Ceres Buses now have more routes and people to serve.”

He further said the north wing of the terminal has been occupied by squatter-coffee shops ever since and is not utilized by other operators.

Vallacar Transit Corporation is the largest land transport company in the Philippines. It comprises Vallacar Transit, Inc., established in 1968, Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc. (RTMI), established in 1985, and Bachelor Express Inc., also established in 1985.

This family-owned and managed business has grown from a lone 14-seater jeepney plying a single route, to a conglomerate of transportation companies with a combined number of operating units of a little over 2000 transport vehicles as of January 2008, operating in nearly 80 percent of the bus routes in the Visayas and Mindanao regions as well as some parts of Luzon in the Philippines.

The company pioneered inter-modal services between Negros and Cebu, Mindanao and Leyte, and Panay and Luzon. It also pioneered inter-modal transport services utilizing the Strong Republic Nautical Highway from Cubao in Quezon City to Zamboanga City.

Today, the corporation presides over a transportation business with 7,500 direct and active employees, and 2,000 buses serving the island of Negros, Panay, Cebu, Samar-Leyte, Mindanao and Batangas City.

Yanson said the growing number of passengers serviced by the company “is a big proof of the public’s big trust for the company despite the crisis in the economy of the country today.”
