1 million online job vacancies eyed

PUBLIC Employment Service Office (Peso) managers as well as Labor and Employment regional directors have been tasked to attain the targeted one million job vacancies that should be posted at the Philjobnet system and made available to job seekers at any given time.

Peso managers were also urged to work closely with the Dole in the selection of the “poorest of the poor” as beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) with an added budget of P168 million or an equivalent of 52,000 students to be employed.

“Discard the manual system of providing assistance to jobseekers at the local level and use the PhilJobnet since it is the faster mode of doing so,” DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz told Peso managers during their recent quarterly meeting.

The Bureau of Local Employment, the Dole regional offices and the Peso managers should also work hand-in-hand and intensify their advocacy for the system among employers in the regional and local levels.

Specific quota for each region in terms of the number of establishments with posted vacancies and the minimum number of vacancy postings each region should have to maintain at least a million job vacancies at any given time had likewise been specified. “Be conscious of said regional targets so together we could achieve our goal.”

With the PhilJobnet, Pesos and Dole regional offices could provide assistance to local contractors faster in terms of identifying needed and available skills for community-based employment projects in the different regions.

“We need to already deploy these systems because these are all part of our commitments in the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan,” Baldoz was quoted as saying. “I have issued a memorandum to Dole regional directors to intensify the use of the PhilJobnet to reach out to the jobless and make the job vacancies in the system available to them.” (CGC)
