Agri, Education offices set exam for fisheries scholarship

THE departments of Education and Agriculture will hold the competitive exam for the fisheries scholarship program (FSP) for school year 2012-2013 in March this year.
The FSP provides for five scholars per region for college studies leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.

Under the program, a scholar will be entitled to a free tuition and other school fees; book allowance of P2,000 per semester; monthly stipend of P2,500; thesis; OJT/practicum support and graduation assistance.
The so-called “baccalaureate scholarship for industry leaders” is open to high school graduates/graduating students who are Filipino citizens, certified by their respective school heads as among the top 10 (not upper 10 percent) in the graduating class to which they belong, not more than 20 years old and have not earned any units in college.
Applicants must be of good moral standing, physically fit, free from criminal/civil/administrative liability, and genuinely interested in pursuing studies in fisheries.
The application form, which can be obtained from the division offices and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regional offices, should be filed not later than February 14, 2012.
The exam will be simultaneously administered in 16 designated centers spread in various regions on March 17, 2012. For Region 6, including Negros Occidental, the venue will be the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology in La Paz, Iloilo.
"The examination will include test items in science, including biology, chemistry and physics; English (grammar and reading); as well as basic fisheries and mathematics like applied arithmetic, algebra and geometry," said DepEd Memorandum 10-2012.
