NEGROS Occidental Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez yesterday said the proposed P300-million solid waste disposal facility in his area can also be developed into a power generation project.
Benitez said they have already identified several options for the location of the facility either in Silay City or E.B. Magalona town.
Third District Board Member Patrick Leonard Lacson said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) endorsed on Wednesday the request for approval of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. giving him the authority to sign the memorandum of agreement (MOA).
The agreement will be entered between the Third District, Province of Negros Occidental, Department of the Environment and Natural Resources and the Office of the President.
Lacson, chairman of the SP committee on environment and natural resources, said the facility, seen to be established in Talisay City, will not only address the common problem of garbage disposal, it may also be developed into a power generation project.
Comprising the Third District are the cities of Victorias, Silay and Talisay, and the municipalities of Murcia and E.B. Magalona.
Lacson said these local government units are willing to share resources for the realization of the project.
He added that the Office of the President through Executive Secretary Jojo Ochoa, and Benitez assured funding for the project. (TDE)
