3rd District women learn soap-making-A A +A
Friday, March 7, 2014
THERE’S a new income-generating hobby in the 3rd District: soap-making.
Women here are taught how to make detergent powder, fabric softener and liquid dishwashing soap, using indigenous ingredients from their respective localities.
They are being trained by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
This is a community-based capability-building project of Rep. Albee Benitez, in his vision to make women and housewives in his district self-reliant and self-sufficient.
Last Wednesday, 30 women from Murcia and Talisay were trained on soap-making by Mella Omarrementeria, Gloria Arcenal and Mae Buaron of DTI.
The first batch of trainees was composed of 67 women from various barangays of Victorias, trained by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) after undergoing a seminar conducted by the DTI last December.
The second batch was composed of 62 women from E. B. Magalona and Silay City.
On Saturday, the Murcia trainees will conduct an echo-workshop for 15 women in their town.
