BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella warned erring business establishment owners on Monday to secure business permit and pay their taxes within the week or else he will be constrained to close down their establishments or publish their names in the dailies.

"I warn you to start complying now. I am giving you choices – either you pay up or you close up," the chief executive said.

Puentevella was out of the country for a week as he went to Brazil for the World Cup and to Singapore for the World Mayors’ conference.

He said that he will penalize those who will continue their malpractice, adding that his team will go around the city to check those with or without business permits, including market vendors.

Those who defy the law should not blame him for enforcing the law, the mayor said.

He noted that there is a big percentage of business establishments that operate in the city without business permits.

The one-week period given to establishments without permits to process their documents started Monday. (CNC)
