THE One Town, One Product (Otop)-Philippines program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was formally launched in Calatrava town Tuesday.

Department of Trade and Industry provincial director Rebecca Rascon spearheaded the project to provide assistance to residents through skills and talents enhancement in generating local products.

Otop-Philippines aims to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs.
Through the Otop, local chief executives of every city and municipality take the lead in identifying, developing and promoting a specific product or service which has a competitive advantage.

The project also offers a comprehensive assistance package through the convergence of services from local government units, national government agencies and the private sector.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) director, witnessed the momentous event as well as supported the local chief executives in their goal for a more productive and well-developed municipality.

Also present during the activity were Governor Isidro Zayco, local chief executives of Calatrava headed by Mayor Alfonso Baguio Jr. and Vice Mayor Nicolas Camara, Board Members Nehemias Dela Cruz Sr. of the 1st District and Patrick Leonard Lacson of the 3rd District, Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. of Escalante City, Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. of San Carlos City, Mayor Evello Valencia Jr. of Toboso, Sagay City Administrator Perfecto Marañon and newly-installed brigade commander of the 303rd Brigade, Lt. Colonel Maximo Caro.
