City agri provides vegetables seeds

BACOLOD City Agriculture Office is now providing vegetables seeds and foliar fertilizers to farmers for backyard production in the city as supplements to their daily needs, as the effect of El Niño phenomenon continues.

City Agriculture officer-in-charge Romeo Garcia said Monday that as of April 14, the City Government identified eight barangays with crop damage due to El Niño phenomenon. These include barangays Pahanocoy, Cabug, Alangilan, Granada, Felisa, Sum-ag, Tangub and Estefania.

Garcia said most of the affected crops are rice and assorted vegetables, with the total damaged area of 35 hectares and 37 farmers affected.

He said these affected barangays have an estimated production loss of 105.20 metric tons with the estimated value in the amount of P1,526, 300 for vegetable price production.

Garcia said they are now providing assorted vegetables for the backyard production for the affected farmers, "which these vegetables seeds will allow the farmers to produce good vegetable after a month."

He added that before the onset of rainy season, the City Government will also provide farm inputs such rice seeds as support planting materials worth P1,200 yet be given to the farmers for only P600.
