Complainants: Distrito was Global Placement's lawyer

THE five complainants against Global Placement Service, Inc. have submitted another letter to the City Council insisting that Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito served as the legal counsel of the said company.

The latest communication is in supplement to their first letter.

Maritess Dumdum-Manayon, Lirenz Kaye Gamboa, Liezl Segovia, Janice Alacapa

and Marvie Ann Donquines informed the City Council regarding their proof that Distrito was the lawyer of Global Placement Service, Inc., the company that allegedly failed in its promise to send them to study and work in the United Kingdom.

"It is our honest belief that Atty. Distrito is the legal counsel of GPP, as shown in the emails that they obtained and the pictures showing him and Jocelyn Lantron, Director of GPPI and others in Hongkong," the complainants said.

However, Distrito said that those accusations are done with malice.

"What's the relation of having pictures with the GPP group in Hongkong? I paid for my own travel. There is no relation to speak of," Distrito countered.

According to Distrito, the complainants circulated these emails and pictures maliciously for the purpose of damaging his reputation.

"Can they prove an investigation that I have covered up? The burden of proof is with them regarding their allegation that I served as the lawyer of the GPPI and have received campaign funds from them," he said.

Distrito added that he already filed three counts of libel where he asked for P1 million in damages against the complainants.

He said that he is not the lawyer of GPPI and has only rendered notarial services to the said company.

"Such services are far different from acting or serving as a lawyer of the said company," Distrito stressed. (Carla N. Cañet)
