Cops seize grenade



A PLASTIC bag that contained a hand grenade was recovered in Barangay Central Tabao, at Valladolid town Friday morning, Chief Inspector Alexander Munoz, Valladolid police chief, said.

He said that an informant told him regarding the suspicious looking plastic bag placed beside a road which was found by traffic enforcer Rodolfo Panesa.

The explosive was brought to the Valladolid Police Station for proper disposition, Muñoz said.

Meanwhile, one of four robbery hold-up suspects involved in Nov. 6 heist in San Enrique was arrested hiding inside a sugarcane field.
Senior Inspector Eduardo Corpuz, San Enrique police chief, said apprehended was Richard Tragona, 33, and resident of Maravilla Village in nearby Pontevedra town.

His other cohorts identified as alias Cyril of Bacolod City, alias Jay and Jonard Belandro of Hinoba-an escaped after the robbery incident.

Corpuz revealed that Tragona and his three companions staged the heist at a store owned by Rolando Plana, 73, Saturday afternoon in Barangay Tabao-Rizal, San Enrique that involved cash amounting to P23,000 as loot.

Tragona is now detained at the police station. The other suspects remain at large.

In Cadiz City, five persons were arrested for illegal gambling Saturday afternoon at hacienda Cana-an in Barangay Mabini.

Chief Inspector Noel Mana-ay, Cadiz City police chief, said those arrested were Edgar Megasca, Antonio Casindac, Edward Camacho, Romeo Villaflor and Samuel Gacula.

They were arrested for engaging in illegal gambling "cara y cruz" inside a cockpit.

Seized were five heads of fighting cocks, one steel ring, one round stone, two tables, three pieces cue coins and cash amounting to P300 used as bet money.

The suspects are presently detained at Cadiz City police station pending the filing of charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 in court.
