Among other areas affected are the cities of Cadiz, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, Victorias, Bago, San Carlos, Silay and Sagay, and the municipalities of Moises Padilla, Binalbagan, Ilog, Hinobaan, Murcia, La Castellana, EB Magalona, Manapla, Toboso, Calatrava, Hinigaran, Candoni, Pulupandan, Isabela, and San Enrique.
Based on Decena’s report that among the animals affected are the swine, goat, carabao, cattle and poultry.
The province is on top of the Regional Poultry Inventory, with more than 6.5 million heads where more than 1.2 million heads are broiler; more than 500,000 heads (layer) and more than 4.7 million heads are of native chicken and game fowls.
At present, the broiler industry is producing 1.5 million birds per month which is estimated to value more or less 1.8 billion in pesos a year while the layer industry is valued at 0.5 billion.
The game fowl industry, on the other hand, is estimated to value more or less P4 billion.
Decena also warned the livestock and poultry raisers to closely monitor the animals that are prone to diseases, especially this dry season.
DA regional office earlier warned that the dry spell brought about by the El Nino put at high risk the 4 million native chicken and fighting cocks and the 1.5 million broilers produced every month in Negros province.
