Asin to hold reunion concert after 25 years

Thursday, August 31, 2017

FOLK rock band legend Asin will hold reunion concert on September 2 at the University of St. La Salle coliseum in Bacolod City.

This is their first concert after 25 years. They disbanded in 1988.

In a press conference Wednesday, August 30, at the Negros Press Club, band members Lolita “Nene” Carbon and Mike “Noy” Pillora Jr. said that the proceeds of the concert will go to St. John the Baptist Chaplaincy in Barangay Punta Taytay.

Carbon said the concert is meant to reminisce and continue the legacy they started in 1978.

Pillora, said they will perform new songs in the concert.

He said their last reunion concert was in 1992. A year after, their bandmate, Cesar "Saro" Bañares Jr., was shot dead.

Bañares’ son Joseph will also make an appearance at the benefit concert.

Fr. Augustine Hinayan, chaplain of St. John the Baptist Chaplaincy, thanked the band for holding a benefit concert for the church.

He added it is also one way to introduce the songs of Asin to the later generation.

Asin popularized the timeless songs "Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran," "Himig Ng Pag-ibig," "Balita," "Ang Bayan Kong Sinilangan," and "Itanong Mo Sa Mga Bata."

Concert tickets are sold for P1,000, P500, P350, P250 and P150.
