INNER beauty has a greater value than the physical appearance of an individual.

Three Ms. Earth beauty queens, Kriss Psyche Resus (Miss Earth Philippines 2010), Sandra Seifert (Miss Earth - Air 2009) and Catherine Untalan (Miss Earth - Water 2006) are grateful of the blessings they are enjoying for being beautiful and responsible.

Being beautiful, one can easily get her way with anything that she wants. These three beauty titlists made their way to make a difference in the lives of others. Being Ms. Earth beauties, their advocacies directly dwell on the preservation and protection of the environment.

Mother Earth has provided the human beings the vast resources to enjoy life, but most people fail to reciprocate its blessings and goodness.

Most people are unmindful of how they dispose their garbage. A simple trash of a candy wrapper is being thrown elsewhere. But thousands of people threw even a single candy wrapper, which becomes a problem on our drainage, on our health if that volume becomes unmanageable.

Garbage disposal has been a failure to most Local Government Units. It's undeniably a fact, the three Ms. Earth Beauties agreed.

Most of us just simply think that our government is there and let them care of our trash. There's a saying that, "One's trash becomes the treasure of another." This simply means that through proper waste disposal with the proper observance of waste segregation, there are many wastes that can be recycled and can be made to good use again.

The three Ms. Earth beauties were amazed when they visited RU Foundry and Machine Corp. at Sitio Aning, Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City Saturday because there were various kinds of shredders that help reduce the volume of garbage of a community and even the entire city. One can shred paper and can make eco-charcoal for home use.

Shredding by biking or mechanically, Mr. Ramon Uy, Sr., Director of Organik na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association (ONOPRA) has the equipment.

Seifert said it's better; one can make paper charcoal and exercise at the same time using the bike shredder. The paper or eco-charcoal is very useful and truly within the line of conservation.

One can save more trees if we re-use used papers and make it into an eco-friendly paper charcoal.

Uy was very passionate in making these eco-friendly machines and equipment to contribute in the efforts of reducing the volume of our wastes. May's Organic Garden is also within Uy's compound. They practice and promote organic and natural farming. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and fresh fishes are being served to guests and friends. The family enjoys the benefits of living and going organic. Only a few have seen the benefits of being responsible in taking good care of the environment by practicing the proper waste disposal. We can re-cycle and re-use many things from wastes.

Pahanocoy Punong Barangay Elmo Olivar who also welcomed the Ms. Earth beauties said that Pahanocoy is into mangrove propagation. They have artificial reef, best shelter or breeding ground of various kinds of fishes. And he felt proud that their barangay was visited by the Ms. Earth beauties.

Moreover, while Uy and his family happily introduced to the Ms. Earth beauties the product of their hard work and discipline, the three Beauties also reciprocated it by holding a storytelling activity for the children of Brgy. Pahanocoy.

Seifert also shared "Project Noel," a 30-minute film produced by her batch, which also dwelled on re-cycling and efforts to care for the one and only Mother Earth.

The three Ms. Earth beauties also explored another organic farm- Melba's Farm at Brgy. Cabatangan, Sitio Masanglad, Talisay City.

lvin Caranza who owns Melba's Farm and Talisay City Mayor Dr. Eric Saratan and several important guests and friends warmly welcomed the three.

They were fascinated by the grandeur of Melba's Farm where majestic scenery of the place, which overlooks the entire Bacolod City, ornamented by the tiny lights that were seen in the distance, one could truly feel sacred and at peace with thyself and the nature.

Melba's Farm practice and promote conservation, preservation and protection of the environment.

The three Ms. Earth beauties said that they have a big shoe to fill in being the Ambassadress of the Environment, but they will continue to do their role to encourage the people to start making a bold step towards caring and loving Mother Earth by doing their simple and little share by being responsible even to the simplest form of properly disposing their garbage.

Changing attitudes really require patience and hard work especially in educating the public and make them understand how valuable are their contributions in making a difference of keeping Mother Earth well again. (Carla N. Canet)
