THE Guimaras Strait remains to be safe for sea travel despite prolonged cold fronts causing waves or water turbulence, said the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
PCG Bacolod Chief Petty Officer Victor Pulvora said despite the bad weather hampering the region in the last three days that causes scattering rain showers and on-an-off wind blows, Guimaras Strait, as it appears, remains safe for passage of any passenger-carrying ferries.

However, Pulvora advises small fisherman who only uses small fishing boats, to refrain from going into the sea for fishing as the weather appears not friendly for small bancas.
Pulvora said everybody has to take extra-precautionary measures to avoid any unwanted tragedy in the sea.
Ferries carrying passengers on a multiple daily trips to and from Iloilo City are still safe for travel.
Guimaras Strait serves as the main sea access of the provinces of Negros Occidental, Guimaras, and Iloilo.
PCG also advises ferry companies to ensure that their vessels are capable of traveling, adding that it is necessary to avoid any engine troubles that could delay the scheduled trips.
Pulvora said they would only impose travel ban once a storm signal puts threat in the region, which is, as of the moment, not declared by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
