THE Bacolod City Council approved on 1st reading last Wednesday a proposed ordinance increasing to P1,000 the quarterly service allowance of Bacolod City World War II veterans or their surviving spouse.
The proposed ordinance was authored by Councilor Catalino Alisbo, who said that the City has an allocation of P2.5-million from its 2009 budge under the City Welfare and Development Office’s veterans’ welfare program intended for the financial support of 637 members of the Bacolod WWII veterans or their surviving spouse.

Alisbo said the city has been giving each veteran or the surviving spouse the amount of P840 per quarter.
He said the decreasing number of Bacolod veterans also reduced the number of beneficiaries that are supposed to get the P2.5-million assistance.
