HOG raisers in Negros Occidental are warned of lower price at P1 to P2 per kilo due to lower demands after elections.

Albert Lim, national president of Hog Raisers Association of the Philippines, said that while it is happening every year in the province that the price of hogs and other animals would usually go down during enrollment and during the off-milling season, the lower demands due to a projected drop in the circulation of money after elections would also contribute to the drop in the prices of hogs.

Lim clarified that the drop in the price of live hogs may not have an impact in the prices of pork in the markets.

Those who will be affected by the drop in the price of swine are the raisers only but not the whole consumers.

Lim also said that in so far as the population of swine in the province is concerned, we have enough supply and in fact, we even export our supply to other provinces like Cebu.

On the effect of the El NiƱo phenomenon, Lim said it has not affected the hog raisers so far.

Those affected are the backyard raisers who are not capable of having a water system for their pig pens. Piggeries are always prepared with a water system for their hogs, Lim said.
