King and Queen of SJAS
Saturday, February 18, 2012
LAST February 11, 2012, the Search for the King and Queen of the Saint Joan of Arc School was held as the highlight of its 16th Foundation Day anniversary.
Justine Cedric Lopez and Shifra Medina emerged as the winners in the search which traditionally culminates in a dance to the music of “King and Queen of Hearts” by David Pomeranz. Who could ever forget this slow and mellow tune of the 1980s that could still captivate its listeners amidst the many love songs that the Valentine season brings?

As an added feature to this year’s festivities, a Creative Costume Making Contest was held. Parents did their best in coming up with costumes of the kids using bits and pieces of recycled materials like newspapers, tanzans, Styrofoam cups, plastic spoons and forks, flowers and dried leaves. The winners in this one-of-a-kind contest were Carl Lorenz Garboso and Kathryn Francisco.
February happens to be the birth month of SJAS Foundress Ma’am Grace Espiritu, mother of Ma’am Moonyen Ojastro, SJAS School Head. Ma’am Grace is married to Atty. Renecio Espiritu with whom she has seven children. The ancestral house of the Espiritus is one of the oldest homes in Camingawan, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City. St Joan of Arc Preschool occupies one corner of its spacious grounds.
“Time will pass and tears will fall but someday we’ll both recall moments made of these golden memories” form part of the lyrics of the song “King and Queen of Hearts”. My wholehearted thanks to Ma’am Moonyen Ojastro for making me a part of those wonderful moments that will forever be in the hearts and minds of the students of the St Joan of Arc Preschool.
