Nunelucio Alvarado: A preview

ART aficionados in Bacolod City and outlying areas were recently treated to a visual feast from Negrense senior artist Nunelucio Alvarado who held a preview of his July 13, 2012 solo art exhibit in Iloilo at the Department of Foreign Affairs Regional Consular Office Bacolod Branch Art Gallery at the East Block Square along the Circumferential Road.
Guest of Honor during the ribbon-cutting ceremony last June 15 was DFA RCO Officer in Charge Joselito Blas, a self-confessed art collector. Multi-awarded and internationally acclaimed visual artist Nunelucio Alvarado presented his newest India ink on paper drawings entitled Fish Oil, Tentasyon, Patdan, The Mader, Relif, Shy Girl, Flower ni Inday, Toxic, Bukog, Ihaw, Kontaminado, and Itlog Baog.
Displayed along with this newest collection were his previous artworks under his Lalaki and Babayi series which portrayed men and women in their day-to-day preoccupations.
It was during the tenure of former OIC Reynaldo Cardenas that the Bacolod DFA's Records Room was converted into a gallery that housed the contemporary artworks of our local visual artists. The Art Gallery provided a much needed venue for art exhibits that showcased the creativity of these artists.
Most importantly, it was also accessible to the viewing public. Thus, the artists and their artworks gained public exposure which greatly helped facilitate the sale of their drawings and paintings.
The nicest thing about it is that the DFA did not charge any fees for its use nor did they exact any percentage from the sale of the paintings and drawings.
Some good things never last, however, and soon the local DFA will be packing up and transferring to a mall, in line with the DFA's Public Private Partnership Program. Fortunately for the local visual artists, there's Galleria Verde at the Robinsons Cybergate right across the old Bacolod airport which has been very accommodating to the visual artists.
Nunelucio Alvarado has been very active in the local art scene for the past several months and his one-man-show at the Museo Iloilo entitled "Inspirasyon ni Alvarado" will run from July 13 to August 10, 2012.
