No Other than the one and only Miss Anne Curtis!

BY THE time the latest issue of Sun.Star Weekend Bacolod Edition hits the newsstands this coming Sunday, July 22, the most-awaited concert of the year, Annebisyosa No Other Concert, will have packed up with its main star Miss Anne Curtis and her guest stars off to their next singing engagements and other showbiz commitments.
As I compose this article, it’s two days to go before Miss Anne Curtis goes center stage at the University of Saint La Salle Coliseum here in Bacolod City. So what’s there to do during the waiting period?
For me, it was going over the local glossy magazines that had feature write-ups of Miss Anne Curtis, as well as watching her films on DVD with seasoned veteran actors and actresses like Ronaldo Valdez, Christopher de Leon, Aga Muhlach, Boots Anson Roa and Claudine Baretto. These DVD films were “In Your Eyes” and “When Love Begins”.
In the first DVD film, Anne Curtis’ leading man was Richard Gutierrez who played the role of a man who fell in love with his girlfriend’s sister. The way Richard acted out his role as a secret lover made it such a crime for Claudine to give him up just to prove her love for her sister Anne.
The confrontation scene between the two sisters was really ugly, with Richard Gutierrez cursing p___ i___ at the two contenders in disgust.
If I were to write the ending of the story, it would have a most happy ending, with Richard and Claudine admitting their love for each other and Anne graciously accepting the sad reality that things are over for her and her boyfriend.
I got my happy ending in the second DVD film “When Love Begins” where Miss Anne Curtis is paired with serious actor Aga Muhlach. In this 2008 movie by Star Cinema Pictures and Viva Films, Aga Muhlach portrays the character of Atty. Benedicto Caballero of the environmental group Mother Earth Movement. Anne Curtis is the beautiful daughter of a land developer acted out by veteran actor Christopher de Leon.
The trouble begins when Atty. Caballero serves as the legal counsel of local settlers opposing the cutting of century-old trees in their area. The two lovers had to part ways because of conflicting interests. After two years however, they were again reunited in the beautiful island of Boracay where it all started for them.
That gem of an island popularly known as Boracay provided a romantic setting for the getting-to-know-you phase of the love story and it was sheer pleasure seeing the two summer attire-clad main characters playfully running on the white sand beach and taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Great credit also goes to writer/director Jose Javier Reyes for taking a pro-environmentalist stand in the storyline.
The most memorable line for me was when Anne said “Ben, mag lelecture ka ba about the end of the world? Just enjoy this moment, just enjoy the beach.” This is how Boracay is to people, a place where one can relax away from the cares of the world, and perhaps meet a special someone with whom they can relax and unwind.
In both films, Miss Anne Curtis displayed her acting prowess. She made us laugh and she made us cry. For sure, she made her male fans sigh with her great beauty.
Welcome to Bacolod City, Miss Anne Curtis. I hope you enjoy your stay in the City of Smiles.
