The Dogs of Susanito Sarnate

PEOPLE used to care for dogs principally for their love and companionship. These days the main reason for having one is to have a guard dog as a deterrent to crime.
Just recently, we acquired a puppy for both reasons. We named him Thor after the superhero in the movie blockbuster “The Avengers”.
Thor is a small-sized dog who grew lengthwise. His loud barking sounds very much qualify him for the position of family watchdog.
Thor is the typical dog who lies in wait on the kitchen floor while we eat our family meals. We like him for his playfulness and intelligence.
Negrense visual artist Susanito Sarnate created miniature artworks which portrayed dog-human interactions, whether at work or at play. These miniatures were displayed during his one man show entitled “Kingki” at the Museo Negrense de La Salle from November 21 to December 14, 2012.
If you are a dog lover or a caregiver of dogs, then you can relate to the visual images depicted by each set of miniatures. You’ll also come to realize that nowadays dogs are an integral part of a typical Pinoy household.
It is truly an amazing feat for Susanito Sarnate to be able to produce such scaled down artworks down to the minutest detail using simple clay as the art medium.
May there be more shows to come in year 2013 to showcase Sarnate’s talent and creativity!
