“And the beauty of a woman, with passing years only grows!”-A A +A

I TOTALLY believe that age is but a number and as one ages, the beauty of a woman grows especially if one’s outlook in life is centered on love.
One such lady is Linda Sta. Cruz Elordi who celebrated her 95th birthday last August 8.
Tita Linda’s life has been centered on love. From her dearly departed husband, Gotzon, to only child, Maite, to her two apos -- Manu and Maricris -- her four great grandchildren, her relatives, her friends, her Church, her charity, the Friendship Home of Fr. Luis Amigo, Tita Linda’s sincere love was reciprocated with the turnout of all her love ones in the surprise party cooked up by Maite and Maricris.
It was supposed to be just a Mass at 4:30 p.m. at the Padre Pio Center at Lupit and the immediate family was to have intimate dinner and picture-taking to commemorate the historic occasion. Never did Tita Linda know that as she entered the function room of Sugarland Hotel, there were ladies and gentlemen all dressed up in the black and white with pearls flowing by the yard for the 1920’s theme.
Headdresses and furs were prepared to have everyone in sync with the Great Gatsby look.
All of Tita Linda’s family from near and far Kabankalan were present to greet her and there were no killjoys who did not cooperate with the fun.
Of her celebrant Mom, Maite says that she used to be a hands-on green thumb and would spend her time caring for her plants even watering them herself. Typically, of any lady of her generation, she loved traveling and jewelry. But now, she prefers to play mahjong.
Tita Linda plays mahjong almost daily and that is what keeps her mind so alert at 95. This daily activity also keeps her bonded with her friends mostly in their 80’s and 90’s.
It was really amazing to see that at 80 and up, life is not confined to a rocking chair and just reminiscing the good old days. Life is what you make it and to be joyous when you have journeyed through most of life’s harsh realities and still remain grateful and happy, is truly the mark of not only a survivor but making a difference in this world.
So you see all these octogenarians and nonagenarians with their yayas in tow, dancing to the tango, chacha, fox trot after the performance of the grand apos. Again, just looking at them with their energy and elegance, I cannot help but gawk!
And talking about numbers, Mr. Emilio Lamata, all of 103 years old was there looking every inch a noble patriarch that he is.
Maite further says that her Mom is blest with the grace of being a good listener. Not “cheesy” or “touchy” by today’s parlance, yet, Tita Linda will afford you her time to sit and listen and give you sound advice. I believe wisdom comes with age and Tita Linda has been granted that by the Good Lord. She likewise embraces her friends and family with her “familia” type of caring.
At 95, Tita Linda has maintained her Castilian good looks. How she has kept this gift?
Sophia Loren says: “There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”
