The First Christmas Musical

-A A +A

Saturday, December 14, 2013

I AM excited to tell you all that The First Christmas Musical will be shown very soon. Free up your nights from Dec.16 until Dec. 23 and gather friends and family to glorious evenings of Christmas carols sang by the heavenly voices of various Bacolod choirs.

At the tri-media conference last December 9, we learned that planning for this big event started in June quietly by the Negros Cultural Foundation (NCF), the Bacolod Cultural Foundation (BCF), and the Central Philippine Adventist College (CPAC) with the valuable support of the Bacolod City Government and the Province of Negros Occidental. The non-governmental organizations NCF and BCF hope to promote the arts and culture in Bacolod and the rest of the province to align the vision of these governmental units of encouraging a cultural exchange within the community.

This eight-day affair will have its official opening on Dec. 16, 5 p.m., at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall. From Dec. 17 to 23, performances shall be at the Bacolod Plaza from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in order to utilize the plaza as a cultural setting in the city. The 1927 plaza will come alive with the following schedule of performances:

December 17 – Welcome Home Foundation/Kalipay Foundation/Education and Training Center School (ETCS) 3, and Negros Occidental High School

December 18 – Central Philippine Adventist College (CPAC) Chorale and Orchestra/Negros Mission Academy Hedystrils Chorale

December 19 – Domingo Lacson National High School Z-Club (sponsored by the Zonta Club)

December 20 – GMA Kapuso Baranggayan

December 21 –The La Salle Chorale/Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement/Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade/Bacolod City National High School

December 22 – Gardenville Youth Ministry Choir/CPAC Chorale and Orchestra

December 23 – The Culmination of the First Christmas Musical featuring Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) of Sagay City and the awarding ceremony of the Bacolod City Barangay Parol and Arches Competition

Imagine community singing of Christmas carols with wind and string accompaniments. Imagine a different choir singing each night for eight nights with the audience sharing a common heritage and standing shoulder to shoulder to witness the vast musical talents of the Negrenses.

Imagine this nightly experience made even more memorable because the First Christmas Musical is a purely entertaining affair. There will be no appeal to the emotions in order to collect money. There will be no beneficiary but only a sharing of joy and the uplifting of spirits through music. These are free performances meant to feature local talents, to discover and develop musically gifted children, to utilize the Bacolod Public Plaza as a cultural setting in Bacolod, and to let the audience develop an appreciation for fine music. Fine music, this time, means beautiful singing voices accompanied by an orchestra. Let the First Christmas Musical be part of your Christmas memories of a Negrense Christmas.
