IT WAS the ultimate joy for grandparents Nonoy and Lisa de Leon Zayco that first “apo,” Miguel Enrique “Eque,” spent his second birthday in Bacolod.
With Dad Paulo and Mommy Dot Velez just migrating to Canada, Eque’s first birthday was celebrated there. But it wasn’t a lonesome party. Mommy Dot wanted a virtual experience. She made a poster and sent them through email to family and friends all over the world. On Eque’s birthday, everyone held it up, posted it on Facebook or sent the poster through email so that they could all be one in celebrating his birthday with them. It was a global party. Welcome to the cyber generation!
Paulo and Dot wanted this holiday to be extra special with Eque spending his Christmas and birthday here in the Philippines as well. With Canada now in the freezing zone, grandparents are extra happy that their grandson is extending their visit until the weather improves.
So for his second birthday, Eque’s party was held in one of the function rooms of 21 Restaurant. It was a grand celebration with a construction site as the theme of the birthday.
Mommy Dot painstakingly labored with love from invitations to design and execution of the cake stand and cake décor, giveaways, piñata. Being an architect and an artist, the whole concept to realization was flawless.
Mommies and Daddies came as well as Lolas and Lolos with their apos who were babysitting as some parents were off to Boracay to attend a wedding. Lesson 101 on grandparenting: It seems that lolas and lolos do have their gazes almost totally fixed on their beloveds during these occasions.
There was an emcee who entertained the kids with questions and answers, with prizes awarded. “Show me” games also made the toddlers excited and energetic rushing up to accomplish what was needed.
Eque slept part of the time during the celebration but was up and animated when it was time to blow the candles of his cake, which was a delicious butter cake whipped up by Grandma Lisa.
There were goodies galore for the kids to bring home as well as giveaways and more prizes. Kids went home happy as well as the mommies and daddies and especially the lolas and lolos.
