STILL in the month of hearts, it was a joy to celebrate with Oboy and Telly Hagad Moran their 30th wedding anniversary this February.

Telly and Oboy have been living in Toronto, Canada for the past seven years but their wedding anniversaries are spent here in the Philippines to be with their family for the blessed occasion. For their Silver Anniversary, it was spent in Tagaytay and Manila where Oboy’s family resides. Now for their 30th, it was here in Bacolod, this time with Telly’s family and friends.

Thirty years have seen many beautiful episodes in Oboy’s and Telly’s life. Bishop Gerry Alminaza, who always celebrates these occasions with them, says that with every anniversary, we see the marvel of God’s wonderful Hand unfolding in the life of Oboy and Telly. Before they were just two journeying through life, now they are four— with Monica and Eric—completing the family circle.

Oboy is one of those soft spoken gentlemen whom you often see but seldom hear. He goes about his ways silently and dutifully. Happy now with his life in Toronto, Oboy is the loving father who works for the government of Canada in the region of Peel specifically for Peel Living which takes care of housing for the cities of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. This is a job that sits well with Oboy who gets things done ASAP and without a fuss.

Telly, my dearest friend, has not changed a bit even with the transfer of residence. She is still the petite, charming achiever whose love for travel seems to be endemic in her system. She is a financial adviser who helps immigrant Filipinos with their financial game plan from children’s education, investment and retiring savings, first home to the unfortunate financial catastrophes like sudden death or unexpected illness.

Nonetheless, Telly always finds a way to recharge her energies with trips here and there usually with sister Betty and without any resistance from Oboy.

Their two children, Eric and Monica, are also gainfully employed. Monica is the assistant manager for Food Services for the MacMaster University in Hamilton while Eric is an actuary with Intact Insurance.

Their renewal of vows was solemnized at the St. Scholastica’s Chapel with intimate family and friends. Then cocktails and an early dinner followed at Bob’s.

It was a reunion for the Hagad-Hilado families and the friends of Telly from her different affiliations. Her classmates were there to cheer her; the French Club where she is very much a member; the Women in Travel, the organization that breathes the very essence of Telly, which is traveling; and the CFM which she shares with Oboy in their spiritual journey.

But Oboy was not without support. In town for the event was his charming cousin Teresa Hayward who lives in Singapore and one of his best buddies from their alma mater Mapua, Nicky Galsim.

It was a beautiful day for us witnessing the love of a couple who have journeyed 30 years of their life together—a life with challenges and struggles but more abundantly with multiple blessings.

To echo Bishop Gerry’s words, let us be witnesses to God’s Hand unfolding His marvel in Oboy and Telly’s life as they celebrate more anniversaries! Congratulations!
