Glittering launch of the new Toyota Yaris-A A +A

WHEN Toyota Motors Philippines launches a new car, it really does it in grand style and with great aplomb.
I was fortunate to be in Manila last week when Toyota invited me to attend the launch of its all-new hatchback subcompact Yaris at the Resorts World Hotel in Pasay City.
The glittering opening featuring dancers and a galaxy of glamorous fashion models set the ball rolling for the launch in front of an invited audience of the nation's top motoring writers, senior Toyota executives and dealers.
Speaking at the opening, Toyota Philippines president, Michonobu Sugata, said the all-new Yaris now sports a more confident and stylish design.
"Significantly larger than its previous generation, the famous hatchback will definitely be the vehicle that people will look at in awe."
"It cops the right balance between sharp edges and smooth surfaces - expressing the vehicle’s personality of being a very fashion-forward car. These elements elucidate its advanced aerodynamics that gives it a more revitalized drive," he added.
"Dynamic styling is bestowed upon the vehicle as seen in its projector type headlamps, extended tail lamps and blacked out quarter panels."
He said Toyota hopes to sell about 150 units of the new model per month. The new Yaris will be imported from Thailand and will be exclusive to the Asian market.
I've always liked the Yaris ever since riding in an earlier model with a friend in Bacolod. I was surprised at how roomy and comfortable it was. But I was even more surprised when sitting in the new Yaris just how much bigger and more spacious it is.
The top variant for the new Yaris is the 1.5G automatic transmission (AT) with a suggested retail price (SRP) of Php845,000, followed by the 1.3E AT with an SRP of Php755,000, and the 1.3E manual transmission with an SRP of Php720,000.
It comes in seven colors - white, black, Thermalyte, Gray Metallic and new shades of Orange Mica Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Frozen Blue Mica Metallic.
