A 53-year-old housewife from Bacolod City won P1 million in San Miguel Brewery’s (SMB) On-Air Millionaire promo at Aksyon Radyo, a press release from SMB yesterday said.

The winner, Ma. Victoria Cortez, said her family will soon realize their dream of acquiring their own house and lot as she intends to spend her winnings in this investment.

“Sobra guid ang kalipay ko sang ginpabalo ko sang taga Love Radio nga ako ang nagdaug (I was so happy when I was informed by a staff from Love Radio that I won),” Cortez said. Love Radio is the FM station of MBC Aksyon Radyo in Bacolod.

Cortez, her carpenter-husband Jeffrey and son John Mari, 16, are informal settlers in Purok Cereza South, Northdrive in Bacolod. With her winnings, she will purchase their dream house.

A portion of it will also finance her son’s education. John Mari is an incoming freshman at the La Consolacion College-Isabela, who will take Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Cortez said she wasn’t able to listen to the draw as she was visiting relatives in Isabela town. When she was informed of her good fortune, she said she cannot explain her feelings. “Thank you, Lord! Thank you, SMB!”

Cortez gathered crowns of various SMB brands every time she and her husband go for a drink either in nearby sari-sari (variety) stores or just at home. Every night she would patiently fill up entries and dropped them in the radio station’s box.

Dependent on her husband’s meager income from contractual jobs, Cortez said she often joins various radio promos. Sometimes she would win P1,500 from weekly draws and this will augment her family’s basic needs.

In partnership with MBC radio stations nationwide, the SMB promo started January 19 and will run until April 19. For more delightful treats and promos, visit the San Miguel Beer Official Facebook fan pages. (PR)
